Hawaiian Orthography

As do many other publications, when printing Hawaiian words we show the `okina accent but not the kahako.

We render the `okina with a backquote, which though technically incorrect shows properly on all web browsers. Unfortunately, the correct symbol, a single reverse quote, doesn't come out right at times, and we considered that an even worse result. No disrespect to the beautiful Hawaiian language is intended.

We usually put Hawaiian words in italics, unless they are words that have made their way into common English usage, such as "aloha."
